Aww, thanks very much! It was definitely a peculiar chapter to write, not least because it's an unfamiliar territory for me (I'm more the lush, green forest sort of person) - I got the desert location from a friend of mine for suggestions for the base, so it's been a little bit of guesswork based on a few photographs ;)

I'm completely addicted to noises in the dark - they're so fantastic for getting the imagination going, and of course the imagination tends to have much grander expectations of what's out there than reality! And I suspect that Mr Pratchett might be following me around.. well, not literally as that would be slightly weird, and I'm sure he has better things to do with his time. Possibly eat ice-cream...
