Horse Isle Game
Mar. 17th, 2008 01:28 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
For those people who are playing and need a helping hand at the start. If you wish to join in, I'm Jaguar on grey server (each server is a seperate world, one account per IP address for each server). This isn't a full help thing, just enough to get you started
Arrival:
Appearance - look at the boxes in the middle of your new window. One should be profile, where you can choose your personal appearance at no cost to you
Stats box - keep an eye on this, as this shows you whether you need to recharge. You can eat anything foody/drinky you find, although you need to find a inn or some other way to rest
Horse box - when you have a horse you can see it through this route. You tack it up, feed it (although you can do this via a horse barn instead), choose animal companions that you may have, and check on the horse's stats here. You also mount it here. You can only have 5 horses max - any more and you need a ranch to keep them.
When you're on the starting mini island, go speak to Willie and he'll tell you to dig up the top by the rock. To dig, go to the spanner at the bottom right and then click on dig. You should get money and then you can go to the docks to go to the main island where you start the game
-------------------------------------
IF YOU MISS SOMETHING: Go back. However, bear in mind that what you see walking one way may not be the one you saw before. To get back to the item, go back 2 paces then forward 1. You should be on the right "space" to see it. This also goes for wild horses, although they might move around after a while
-----------------------------------
HORSES
Horses can be:
a) caught in the wild - any grassy/green space outside of the cities has the possibility of having a wild horse to catch. Some horses can only be caught in particular areas, such as arabs in the desert isle and cold loving ponies in the ice isles. A new box will turn up if you're on the same spot.
To catch you have to "drag" the lasso out to the horse's neck and then release the button at the right point. This is very tricky! If you fail on the first 60 sec go, then you may be able to find the horse again immediately afterwards for another go.
b) purchased from other players. There's auction blocks (3 mins), or just keep an eye on the chat box where people normally advertise horses for sale. You can normally haggle, although bear in mind that fully trained horses will be expensive. Some breeds are more expensive as well, although it depends on how desperate the breeder is.
If it's a normal breed, 0 - 25 experience points, then expect to pay between $5000 - $20000, rising for a nice colour or more people online. Trained horses or popular breeds can go for $75000 upwards. If you notice a player advertising the same horse for a while, don't be afraid to approach and make an offer. You generally need to physically be at the same location to make a trade with the player, although you can do it at ranches as well
c) free gifts - randomly given away with chat competitions, although normally it's "horse will be given away randomly to the first person at X location!"
d) rented at $280 per 2 hours (Fell Pony at Earton) or $500 for a mustang at Appleton (both Horse Isle). Fully tacked, good for starting when you don't have much money to pay for tack and shoes
When you have a wild horse, it will buck you off every so often until it has 25 experience points. It gets 1 experience point each time it does it so it won't be forever! Several big cities have "training" areas you can pay to train your horses and gain points - this is how you boost them.
---------------------------------------------------------
MONEY/ITEMS: (can have max 40 different items, 50 of each in stock)
Pretty much anything you can pick up has some value and some necessity, although some are more financially brilliant than others. Some are needed for quests. The best:
Any Gems (can be found on beaches) - the best are rubies, pearls and emeralds, assuming that diamonds are very rare - sold at rock stores
Gold/silver ores - can be made into jewellery on Whiskerton (cat isle) with gems and sold on for much more
Iron ore - made into metalwork for tack on Bird Isle
Logs - there's a little house called Ruperts on Chilton next to the wagon house on Ice Isle, he'll pay $100 per log. Logs are very common so this is a good thing
Scorpions (desert isle only) - woman in the middle desert town pays $200 per scorpion
Wishing Coins - most towns have wishing wells. Each coin can get you between $100 - $600 each
Animals - if you're lucky enough to get a parrot, gecko or anything else like that (barring small lizards/scorpions) then they are worth a lot to pet stores, or you can use them on your own horses
Cotton - can use to make into your own rugs. Can be sold for a lot when it's been processed
Peacock feathers - $25 (roughly) each at the local stores
QUESTS all give money, normally between $1000 - $5000. Every house normally has someone who has something that needs doing. Try horse isle first. There are several series of different games/puzzles as well. If you're good at them, then this is excellent to get bonuses. Pyramids have money and diamonds.
Remember that you can sell some things for more at certain locations, and also purchase cheaper. If it's quite far away (oranges in a cold land for example) they're normally more expensive.
Telescopes are cheapest on jungle isle. Generally everything is more expensive on the first city
There are other ways, but these will be the initial way to get money
--------------------------------------------------
TRAVEL
You may have to find the right harbour before you can get to certain places, and bounce around a bit. It helps to have a book next to you to keep track. The main city on Horse Isle is the one that a lot go to.
Wagons - these are on the outskirts of cities and will normally give travel to the next city on the same isle for cheap. Useful for going back and forth quickly
------------------------------------------------------
RANDOM
Libraries are in most cities - they give you information on horses available in the world, pictures, companions, books, maps, and so on
City Hall - you can map an individual if you can remember the name but not where they live!
Water fountains - free water, but may make you lose money on occasion (ponds free for horses but might make them ill)
Apples - improve horse's mood
Barns - will get your horse's normal stats (tiredness, food, drink) to 100%. Will not affect health (vet needed) or mood
Inn - where YOU can rest
Watch out for muddy puddles - if your horse rolls in it you will lose your grooming and need to visit a horse hairdresser
---------------------------------------------------
OTHER PLAYERS
You need to be on the same spot to trade, and when you do you can also add buddy with them too. You also have an easy way to PM them directly. Click on ? button to see their profile (also available on the player button on the bar, but you have to find the player on the list) - you should be able to see any horses for sale and see what horses they have. Sometimes it's nice just to look!
Chat:
Green - moderator
Red - normal chat
Purple - sales/wanted
Blue (on the other side) - personal message only for you. To talk back, go to the scrollbox to the left side and pick the player from it
-------------------------------------------------------
CRAFTING
You can craft food treats, clothing, tack and jewellery (possibly some others but I haven't found them). All but Rebecca are in those strange shaped houses with the blue roof
JEWELLERY: Cat Isle, Whiskerton
You will need:
10 silver or gold ore = 1 chain
1 silver/gold ore = additional clasp
1 gem (rubies for gold, topaz for silver - these bring in the most money. Diamond necklaces are very good, but you may need diamonds to complete quests)
TACK:
iron ore - stirrups, bits etc etc. All different amounts needed
METALWORK is done on bird isle
Wooden saddle is done on hare isle (Rebecca)
Tack crafting is on Witherton, Rider Isle
Leather pieces etc are found at some stores. There is one store for each particular type (unlimited), but you can find them often at other ones.
CLOTHING (and saddle blankets etc)
Cotton - as much as possible
10 cotton = 1 cloth
Go to Turtle isle to craft clothing and cloth. Saddle blankets are done at Witherton on Rider Isle. You need to have some weird and wonderful things for particular colours (eg raspberries for red, dandelions for yellow)
TREATS
On hare isle - apples mostly, although I haven't really looked into it. They boost your horse's mood/hunger etc
